Cristiano Ronaldo will rename the airport, Madeira after his name on Wednesday. But, the statue was the four-times world player of the year; Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo grew up in the Atlantic Island and the airport is present in its capital; Funchal which is named as “Aeroporto Cristiano Ronaldo”.

In Portugal there was the first match on the Island after 16 years. However, the hosts lost the match 3-2 to Sweden despite the early goal by Ronaldo on Tuesday.

It’s obvious that everyone wouldn’t agree with the decision to rename Madeira airport after Ronaldo’s name. Nevertheless, his national-hero status has already being confirmed last year when he led Portugal to victory in the European Championship.

Ronaldo (32) was accompanied to the airport by his girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez and mother Maria. And their heads were turned when a statue was unveiled.
