On Thursday, the I-T department officials again raided Axis Bank in the Ahmedabad Branch. The officials found the transactions of Rs 89 crore in 19 suspicious bank accounts. According to reports, quite a lot of irregularities were found in the bank of an Ahmedabad branch with a suspicious money trail leading to bullion builders.
It was also reported that four bank officials are under the scanner of the Income Tax officials. The bank officials have said that the KYC (Know Your Customer) norms were fulfilled while opening the bank accounts. But, IT officials refused to consider such issues, as these accounts were to be opened only using PAN Card details and not with KYC norms. Ultimately, the four bank officers were under the scanner.
In this branch, four locals with shaded background have opened the 19 accounts. There is one expert (guru) among these locals who deposited the money and we are in search of it, an IT official said.
Earlier in this month, IT officials had raided at Axis Bank in Delhi’s Chandni Chowk and revealed 44 fake accounts. According to the reports, Rs 100 crore were found to be deposited in the bank accounts since November 8, the day when demonetization was announced by PM Modi. A sum total of Rs 450 crore has been deposited in the Chandni Chowk Axis Bank since from the ban has been announced.
The officials said that money present in those 44 fake accounts might have been routed to buy gold. Earlier in last month, the IT officials coped two people with Rs 3.5 crore in new currencies, while they were coming out from the Kashmere Gate branch in Delhi.
The IT department again unearthed Rs 60 crore at Axis Bank in Noida. However, Axis Bank MD and CEO Shikha Sharma said that she was embarrassed by the recent media reports. She assured to take necessary steps against these employees and would continue to do so if they get diverted from their core of conduct.
