WHAT IS A BULLETPROOF JACKET??
Bulletproof jackets are the jackets which reduce or stops penetration to the body from explosions. It’s a vest capable of resisting the impact of bullet type: body armor, cataphract coat of mail, a suit of armor.It protects the wearer’s whole body vest, waistcoat, man’s sleeveless garment.This is worn underneath a coat.
Indian army requires 3, 53,765 total no of jackets. They are looking for modern lightweight modular bulletproof jackets. It allows greater ability to protect the head, neck, chest and sides of the infantry soldiers.
The jacket size varies according to the weight capacity depending on the level of protection. If it’s a low threat mission, then 4kg of the jacket is required. And for high threat, 11.5 kg.

The government is making delay for providing these vital items to the Indian army. As there is a huge shortage of bullet proof jackets for 1.18 million soldiers.
Defense Minister, Manmohan Pakkar has finally given the allowance of purchasing bulletproof jackets for the Indian armed forces.
However, to meet the requirement, the government placed an order of 5000 jackets in March this year. On October 15, the government has delivered jackets to the army people. Finally, after 7 years of delay government granted for delivering jackets to soldiers who are guards in the nation.
In total, the Army needs 353,765 new jackets. 1.86 lakh jackets were to be supplied in the 11th plan (2007-2012) to the armed officers. Another 1.67 lakh jackets during 12th plan (2012-2017).
