Sheryl Sandberg is the chief operating officer of Facebook; she has worked at Google and as the World Bank’s chief economist. She is also the bestselling author of Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead. She turned 47 on August 28, 2016.

  1. Sheryl Sandberg attended the North Miami Senior Beach High School where she was in the National Honor Society and graduated in 1987 ninth in her class, with a 4.6 GPA.
  2. While at Harvard, Sandberg founded a group initiative called ‘Women in Economics and Government.’ According to her, the group was created “to get more women to major in government and economics.”

  3. Her parents are Adele and Joel Sandberg. She has two siblings. Her father is an ophthalmologist, and her mother holds a D. and worked as a French teacher before concentrating on raising her children.

  4. Prior to joining Facebook, Sheryl Sandberg worked for McKinsey & Company and The World Bank. She also served as chief of staff to the then US secretary of treasury Larry Summers. After that, she joined Google in 2001.
  5. Sandberg graduated summa cum laude in 1991, and that same year, Summers became the World Bank’s chief economist, and he asked Sandberg to be one of his research assistants.

  6. She was also involved in launching Google’s philanthropic arm Google.org.
  7. In 2012, Sandberg became the first woman to get elected to the board of directors at Facebook.
  8. She was married for the first time at age 24 and divorced a year later. She says in her book that she was young and didn’t know what she wanted.
  9. She later married David Goldberg in 2004 at the age of 34.
  10. Sheryl Sandberg is the author of a book titled, “Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead.” The bestselling books talk about the reasons there are few women in leadership roles even today.
