Grandparents, keep doing your housework; it’s good for your Heart!


According to a study; after a heart attack, ask your grandparents to make their own bed, do laundry or carry groceries, etc. It will help their roads to recover soon.

According to researchers, a daily walk is beneficial, tai chi, Yoga, and balance training can also help. But, encouraging your parents to do more chores around the house is the simplest way to get the people moving. American Heart Association published that patients should be encouraged for doing their household chores of their own instead of simply giving them medication.

The document says that doing household tasks can improve your strength and balance and frailty; particularly among the elderly patients.

Circulation Medical Journal suggested that exercise training is still a daunting exercise challenge for the majority of the elderly people suffering from cardiovascular diseases.

Encouragement to make the bed, carry laundry, climb stairs, dance, the walk should be the part of our daily routine which in turn helps to achieve healthfully physical active behavior in adults.

A geriatric cardiologist, Dr. Daniel Forman; the chair of the American Heart Association said, doctors are too focused on using drugs- and instead should give priority to exercise.

There are many healthcare providers, who only focuses on the medical management of diseases, such as heart failure, heart attacks, valvular heart disease, and strokes, without directly focusing on helping patients maximize their physical function, added Dr. Daniel.

Dr. Forman added, ‘Emphasizing physical function works as a fundamental therapy which can improve older patients’ quality of life and can able to carry out their daily basis works.’

By the time they’re 75, half of the cardiac patients take 10 medications and the cumulative effects which they have are uncertain and which can be debilitating, Forman added.
