India enters Junior Hockey World Cup finals


Finally, India booked its place in the finals of Junior Hockey World Cup. The Indian team members entered the finals after 15 years by beating former Champion Australia in the semi-finals.

This is India’s first final match since 2001. World Cup finals will be held at Major Dhyan Chand Hockey Stadium in Lucknow on Friday. Despite that, the score after the hockey match was 2-2.

Semi-finals between India & Australia was locked at 2-2 after the whole 70 minutes match. The result was decided by the shootout in which India won the match. Manpreet made the run towards turned left, turned back & gave a reverse stick which finally put India at 4-2 in the shoot out & a place in the finals.

It was the goalkeeper Vikas Dahiya who stepped forward & stopped two goals from the Australian sides. Meanwhile, India makes two penalties & finally stepped into the finals to face Belgium.

All Indian takers- Sumit, Harmanpreet, Manpreet, Harjeet were found at the back of the net for the penalty shoot out & exceptionally Vikas Dahiya as the goalkeeper. The team captain, Harjeet Singh opened the scoring in the shootout which was followed by the goals made by Harmanpreet, Manpreet & Sumit.

In the first period of the play, Australia was on the dominating side & they played in the same manner as they always do. Tom Cragil’s goal put Australia ahead in the 14th minute, which in converted silence in the public. The score remained in the favor of Australia at 1-0 at the half-time break.

India came back in the second half through Gurjant Singh, who scored a superb goal in the 42nd minute with a solo effect.

Manpreet’s reverse shot took the India to lead before Australia leveled in the 57th minute. Lachlan Sharp’s deflection leveled the scoring between them at the last 13 minutes.
