I had been to Gurugram a few days ago to attend my best friend’s housewarming party and had to return back today to Delhi.
I bid her a goodbye and boarded the metro to my place. Only after I got off the metro, that it did hit me — I had NO CASH to pay the auto driver to drop me off at my place. I had put some of my stuff in her purse- including my specs’ cover that had some cash in it for my daily travels, and my umbrella.
I went to withdraw cash from the ATM in the metro station and had to come out of it disheartened, as it was not working. I walked to the shops there, asking people there if they could give me cash if I paid them through Paytm. All of them denied.
I had already spent more than an hour at the station in the process, when,I finally decided to ask one of the passengers for help.
I saw two young women talking to each other in the corner and approached them. I told them of the problem I was facing, and made the same offer as above — that i’d Paytm them the money and they can lend me the cash. The amount was very low( Rs.20).
Both of them had no Paytm account. I said that was fine, and started walking off. That was when someone called me from behind. I turned around to find it was one of those women.
She offered me cash, saying that since I needed it the most that moment, I should take it without considering anything else.
I declined politely, explaining her that it’d be very awkward on my part to accept it,as I won’t be able to return her the amount, and moreover about how it was awkward for me already to ask people for cash.
And then she proceeded to forcefully hand over the cash to me, with a smile, saying that it was completely fine, and that she wanted to help me. finally, after much insisting, I accepted it.
While leaving, I asked her to download the app, as I took her number.
I reached my flat. And in the evening, i texted her about it, and paid her the amount back.
THIS MADE MY DAY.
I have never in my life asked any stranger for help like that, and the way this girl, a complete stranger has helped me, means a lot to me.
These girls deserve an applause! Share it so we can reach to them and say our word of Thanks!
