PV Sindhu, the Rio Olympics Silver Medallist has reached a career best world ranking of Number 2 on the back of her Super Series Title 2017.
Before Olympics began last year, PV Sindhu was in 10th position and in a matter of seven months, she raised herself to eight spots more to reach to the position where only one Indian woman has gone before-Saina Nehwal.
On Sunday, she gave a superlative performance which positioned her to Number 2. She gave a mind blogging performance by defeating Olympic Championship Carolina Marin of Spain 21-19 21-16 to win the India Open Super Series Title.
In the front of a partisan home crowd at the Siri Fort Sports Complex in New Delhi. The third-seeded dominated the match from the start to win the summit clash in 46 minutes. The win narrowed down to Sindhu’s record against the Spaniard to 4-5.
However, PV Sindhu lost in the opening round of the ongoing Malaysia Superseries tournament where she went down in three games with The World No 13 Yufei Chen on Wednesday. Ultimately, that defeat means Sindhu’s stay at the second spot is likely short-lived.
Meanwhile, Saina Nehwal dropped down to one place, that is Number 9 on the rankings.
