Modi government approved the proposal of Single Entrance Examination for admission of Engineering and Architecture colleges for undergraduate students from 2018. The examination will be on the lines of National Ability and NEET Examination for Medical students.
According to Hindustan Times, the human resources management has asked the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) to issue some suitable regulations for implementing the said proposal.
Keeping in view the linguistic diversity, the ministry asked the council to ensure the testing process is standardized. AICTE is the country’s top body that sets up rules and regulations for engineering and technical institutes.
The test will continue multiple times a year, except for IITs; they will have their own entrance exams. The primary motto of the move is expected to make the admission process more transparent and eradication of donation.
Currently, many institutes conduct their own entrance exams or admissions are done on the basis of Class XII boards. Some center-funded institutes give admissions through JEE (Joint Entrance Examination). The examination is conducted by CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education).
The Ministry also requested the deemed universities and government colleges to come under joint seat allocation.
