Silver screen movie
The history of film making saw the lives of two celebrated sportsman being procreated on the big silver screen. It was the Indian movie ‘Azhar’ portraying the biography of the Indian cricketer Mohammed Azharuddin and the American movie ‘Pele : Birth of a Legend’ featuring the life of the legendary Brazilian football player Pele. The 2 sports biographical were much awaited by the fans to see their favourite stars’ life played in a reel.
The Imran Hashmi starrer ‘Azhar’ is all about how Mohammad Azharuddin rose to stardom and the controversies that tagged along later. The former Indian cricket captain and politician was banned for life from BCCI following a match fixing scandal in 2000. The ban was later lifted after being described unsustainable, in 2012. The movie covers all major events of the cricketer’s life including his failed marriage with now ex-wife Noureen and extra marital affair with actress/model Sangeetha Bijlani. Imran Hashmi received appreciation for his role in the movie imitating most mannerisms of the cricketer. The movie is a Tony D’Souza directorial.
‘Pele : Birth of a Legend’ directed and written by Jeff Zimbalist and Michael Zimbalist opens showing the life of a 10 year old Pele playing football back home. Kevin de Paula plays Pele while Leonardo Lima Carvalho portrays Pele at a younger age. Edson Arantes do Nascimento aka Pele was a Brazilian professional footballer regarded greatest player of all times. The movie shows his earlier life and how Pele fulfills his dream of winning the FIFA world cup at the age of 17.
Both the movie are reviewed to have wasted the chance of making a historical movie making its own faults. Both the crew had the perfect material for a winning movie but lacks somewhere to hit the right note. However the people are given an insight to their still favourite stars.
