All total there are 35,000 journals that have been approved by the UGC (University Grant Commission). The research work that was published in them would be considered for the purpose of promotion and direct recruitment of varsity teachers.
The stakeholders and the teaching community have been demanding for the approved journals However, the demand was for a long time in order to set a benchmark for the allied and research activities in the field of Higher Education.
However, the UGC which has been released the list of approved journals. It has also provided the list of research work published only in them would only be considered as the purpose of Career Advancement Scheme and the recruitment of teachers and other academic staffs.
“On the UGC website, the list of journals are available as a web-based search and browse interface. The universities can recommend inclusion of additional peer-reviewed journals that are not listed in the existing list,” letter addressed to vice-chancellors of all universities by UGC secretary Jaspal Sandhu.
The UGC asked to send the varsities to send their recommendations before 15. The listed journals are indexed in Web of Science, Scopus and Indian Citation Index. Journals which are been added to the selected indexing and abstracting services have also been added to the approved list.
The desired list has been broadly categorized in Science, Social Science, Humanities, and Arts.
The direct recruitment of teachers and other academic staffs are directed under UGC.
